Garden by the Bridge House
An extraordinary house in the woods needed a setting which would look natural and echo the environmentally friendly architecture. The house has been designed of two parts connected by an open bridge corridor crossing the existing streamlet. Most of the trees here have been preserved, some of them - incorporated into the house structure.
The garden had to become an extension of the forest and include some natural, wooden structures - to make the access to the backyard and the stream more comfortable, and enable to enjoy nature and outdoor living to the fullest.
In the front yard there have been laid out simple paths from the remaining board pieces of the terraces constructed - contributing to a sustainable design.
The backyard has been added a few wooden zigzag terraces as well as steps and bridges connecting the main house, the guest house and the backyard. The zigzag line appeared to be visually softer, the one that would enhance the beauty of the curving watercourse.
Green layers of various native shrub and tree species (prunus padus, sambucus nigra, ribes) as well as shade, moisture loving perennials helped to create a lush retreat by the everlasting murmur of the stream.
In 2019 the garden won 2nd place in the landscape category in the yearly competition „Trends", arranged by "Namas ir aš" (House and Me) magazine.
